The overwhelming commitment on the part of all of the artists and their enthusiasm for the folk songs brought such an abundance of first-class material to the project so that a third CD could be released. Once again, first-rate soloists, such as Angelika Kirchschlager, Christiane Oelze und Roman Trekel sing on this CD. In addition, a number of young artists and many ensembles and choirs can be heard [ranging from scorings for the traditional four-voice choir via men’s or women’s choir as well as a children’s choir to even an historic recording by the Comedian Harmonists], who offer much variety with their many-faceted choral colors. The CD Volkslieder, Vol. 3 concludes thiscollection, which has presented the folk song in all of its many facets. All of the artists have approached the theme of the folk song in their own intimate way and have brought to it with their most personal interpretations of the songs. Whether an art song or from folklore, a solo song or an arrangement for choir, each approach to an interpretation of the folk song is equally valid. A song becomes a folk song if over a long period of time it remains rooted in the consciousness of the people, regardless of whether the melody, text and form undergo changes.
