Luciano Gallet – 12 Brazilian Exercises for Guitar Trio
Composed in 1928 by Brazilian pianist, composer, and musicologist Luciano Gallet, 12 Exercícios Brasileiros is a pedagogical gem originally written for piano four-hands in a student-teacher format. This new transcription for guitar trio faithfully maintains the didactic structure and artistic spirit of the original.
Each of the twelve short movements draws inspiration from a specific Brazilian popular dance or genre of the period, including Puladinho, Chorinho, Modinha, Maxixe, and Batuque. Guitar 1 mirrors the student part from the original piano score, while guitars 2 and 3 reflect the teacher’s accompaniment.
Depending on the players’ level, the music can be performed in divisi (each guitarist playing different registers) or as a unified part. This makes the work ideal for music education, ensemble classes, or concerts that explore Latin American musical heritage and rhythmic diversity.
Both musically enriching and historically significant, this collection offers a unique opportunity to connect classical guitar practice with the vibrant spirit of early Brazilian modernism.
