Britten once referred to this work as his 'real Opus 1', as the themes in the work are themes from his childhood. At school, he was expelled for a 'shocking' essay he had written, in which he had opposed the practice of bloodsports, and suggested that the brutal effect of them was in fact a cause of war. This edition is for High Voice with a Piano reduction of the original Orchestral score.
