Falstaff, a lyric comedy in three acts, is based on Shakespeare's 'The Merry Wives Of Windsor' and passages from 'Henry IV'. It was both Verdi's last opera and his his first comic opera in over fifty years; it has always retained its place as o0ne of the finest operas ever written. The libretto was by Arrigo Boito, and this edition contains both the original text and an English translation by Walter Ducloux. Also includes a synopsis of the plot and a historical note on the opera and composer.
