Written for and first performed by Marcelo Barbosa and Fabio Zanon at the Wigmore Hall in October 2003, these five pieces are a distillation of my impressions of Brazil (specifically Rio) on my visit there in 1996, although there is no attempt at representation, beyond the "waves" in the title, which suggested the shape and sounds of some of the material for the work. The duration of the whole set is around 18 minutes: the composer is happy for the central three to be performed as a set, in reverse order ie. 4, 3 and 2.
