‘Mormorando’, music for flute, oboe, clarinet and bassoon, refers to individual movements of Elliott Carter’s ‘Eight etudes and a fantasy’. These two works were composed for the same ensemble, 70 years apart. Unlike the widelyused wind quintet, the woodwind quartet employed here is extremely rare indeed.
