In 1802 Beethoven wrote a cycle of six lieder on the poetry of Christian Gellert. The fourth of these, Die Ehre Gottes Aus Der Natur, became popular as Choral work in a hymn-like setting, arranged for various voicings. The English words were provided by Rev J Troutbeck and their rhythm respects the original German. Creation’s Hymn gained a great following in its time and is still a frequent feature on Choral programs.
