Mélodie et Scherzetto was composed in 1904 as examination piece for the Paris Conservatoire. Subtle melodies, fierce imagination anddrama nurtured by the composition of stage works make the work a varied work full of emotionswhich, even today, is perfect for music lessons and concerts. This edition may contribute to making a good piece by a mostly forgotten composer known again. Arthur Coquard (1846-1910) studied law and music at the same time and wasa composition pupil of César Franck. Mélodie et Scherzetto is part of the Schott Student Edition series which provides varied teaching literature at five different levels of difficulty (easy to difficult) and contains practisingtips and information by the editor Rudolf Mauz (Die fröhliche Klarinette, Klarinette spielen - mein schönstes Hobby).
