The melody was composed by organist, Ferdinand Fürchtegott Huber (1791-1863), whilst the text is taken from a poem by Josef Anton Jenne (1798-1870). Gilbert Tinner’s arrangement for concert band retains the folk flavour of the original, with the solo part playable by a flugel horn, euphonium or French horn.
