In the 15th century AD, the northern region of Portugal was hit by the plague.Legend has it that the population made a sacrifice to St. Bartholomew in the form of a special type of blessed bread, called Fogazas, in order to end this terrible curse. This developed into a traditional fiesta, the Festa das Fogaceiras, which is celebrated to this day. This story was the source of inspiration for this composition by the Spanish composer Teo Aparicio-Barberán.
