Solitudo – The Composer’s Thoughts on the Work
Composer Peter Knockaert shares his thoughts: “Solitudo” is a piece I dedicated to my dear friend Margo. Margo has gone through the harrowing process of battling cancer, from the initial diagnosis to the arduous struggle that had to be endured both physically and mentally.
The composition, written in the style of a chorale, reflects the various moments of doubt, hope, and acceptance that accompany this journey. It is often a lonely path, where one tries to mentally place everything in its rightful place. In this process, it is not only the affected person who suffers under this burden but also many people around them.
Nevertheless, Margo showed me that—even in the darkest moments—you must still see the beautiful things in life; the small things that bring joy. This insight deeply moved and inspired me, and thus “Solitudo” was created as an expression of this emotional journey and the unwavering strength that Margo carries within herself.
