Anemoia – A powerful concert work for wind band by Gauthier Dupertuis
Anemoia is a deeply moving and personal composition by Gauthier Dupertuis, written as part of his master’s thesis at the Lausanne University of Music. It is dedicated to his teacher and mentor Jean-Claude Kolly, the most influential figure in his musical life.
The title refers to the unique form of nostalgia for a time one has never experienced — a haunting sense of loss or displacement in time. Inspired by this emotional state, Dupertuis composed music that oscillates between exaltation, anxiety, and reflective melancholy.
The piece consists of two movements:
-
(Un)desired sorrow – begins with a sense of unease triggered by anemoia, then evolves into grand, majestic atmospheres that express admiration for bygone times.
-
Behind the glass of time – offers a more subdued and introspective perspective on the same theme.
Anemoia premiered on December 6, 2024, during Jean-Claude Kolly’s final concert after 30 years as conductor of the Concordia de Fribourg wind band.
An expressive and thought-provoking piece, ideal for advanced wind ensembles seeking emotionally rich, contemporary repertoire.
