Danny Boy is considered to be an unofficial signature song or anthem by many Irish communities, especially Irish Americans and Irish Canadians. The traditional Irish tune ‘The Derry Air’ (also known as ‘Londonderry air’) was first collected in the mid 19th century by Jane Ross, and is recognised all around the world by the Irish Diaspora. In combination with the words of the ballad written by English lyricist Frederic Weatherly in 1910, Danny Boy is widely regarded as one of the most emotional and beautiful pieces of Irish heritage. Ossian Publications presents this timeless classic arranged for Voice and Piano accompaniment with optional easy Guitar chords. Which at first seems like a tragic love story, can also be interpreted as a parent's message to a son going off to war or leaving as a part of the Irish diaspora. This ambivalent meaning allows Danny Boy to be played at various occasions.
