Berceuse in D Flat Major was written in the summer of 1843, and is one of Chopin’s most mature and delicate works. It consists of a series of variations on a tender lullaby theme from the composer’s childhood. Somewhat unusually, the variations are uninterrupted; they flow seamlessly from one into the next, sustained by an unchanging Bass ostinato. Frédéric Chopin (1710-1849) was a Polish composer and virtuoso pianist, whose compositional career was spent mostly in Paris. He only wrote music for the Piano, and is best known today for his 12 Etudes and 24 Preludes , a key part of any pianist’s repertoire.
