Yann Tiersen – Rathlin (From a Distance) | The Liquid Hour

Harnessing the pain and frustration of the world’s injustices and balancing it with hope, optimism, and a search for meaningful change, Yann Tiersen has poured these emotions into his recent music. Rathlin from a Distance | The Liquid Hour is an album in two intrinsically connected parts, each with its own distinct sonic identity.

Rathlin from a Distance, named after an island in Northern Ireland, consists of eight solo piano pieces that feel almost hypnotic due to their immersive characteristics. Each track is named after a place Yann visited on his 2023 sailing tour – from the Fastnet Lighthouse in the Atlantic Ocean through the Faroe Islands and Shetland, ending in the calm waters of the Caledonian Canal, which connects Scotland’s east and west coasts.

"There is something transformative about being at sea. Away from the noise and weight of the world, you are left with the raw, untamed forces of nature—and yourself … The purity you can have at sea allows you to question who you are. To think about the energy of the ocean as a source of birth and death and where we come from. These thoughts are what shaped the piano tracks." – Yann Tiersen

This exclusive folio presents all eight pieces from the first part of the album, as well as the bonus piece ‘Bethesda’. Beautifully printed on high-quality, uncoated paper, it includes a specially written preface by Yann himself. Perfect for pianists seeking to immerse themselves in Tiersen’s unique musical world and experience the poetic beauty of his compositions.
