Very First Step for Piano was written by Barbara Kirkby-Mason for young children, and for pupils who struggle to make use of more than the thumb and first two fingers of each hand. The minimum of concentration is required by the pupil, as each piece only contains one or two musical ideas. The pieces are built up by means of imitation between the right and left hands an octave apart. This progressive volume will give the beginner confidence to move on to further methods when ready.
