Mozart – Serenade in C major K648 "Ganz kleine Nachtmusik" – for Two Violins and Cello (Urtext Edition)
Discover a remarkable new addition to the Mozart canon: the Serenade in C major K648, affectionately known as "Ganz kleine Nachtmusik". Officially added to the Köchel catalogue in 2024, this previously unknown piece was authenticated by researchers at the Internationale Stiftung Mozarteum and traced to a manuscript held in the music library of Leipzig.
Believed to have been composed during Mozart’s teenage years, the serenade consists of seven short movements for string trio (two violins and cello), lasting approximately 12 minutes. Mozart’s sister, Maria Anna (“Nannerl”), described it in an 1800 letter as a "very little night music", making it a charming companion piece to the famous Eine kleine Nachtmusik K525.
This first-ever Urtext edition offers performers a pristine and historically informed interpretation of the work. It’s a perfect addition to recital programs, chamber music repertoires, and educational settings.
