Rondino was first published in 1900 as the fourth in a collection of eight Bagatelles (Op. 18) for solo Violin with Piano accompaniment. It was composed by the violinist, composer and pedagogue Gustav Ellerton , who is also known for his collection of 6 Morceaux Mignons (Op. 21). Each Bagatelle in the collection is designed for the young and beginner violinists; each movement can be played entirely in the first position. No. 4, Rondino , is a semiquaver movement that is ideal for developing dexterity and rhythmic pulse in the fingers of the left hand.
