Wintergarden/Blue Note marks a turning point in the career of Louis Armstrong , and hence in the entire history of Jazz music. After his famous concert at New York Town Hall, he broke up his Big Band and set about forming his All-Stars . The first recording on this disc is taken from the Winter Garden in 1947, a month after that concert. Not yet the All Stars , this similar group is still stellar, and all the more intriguing as Armstrong’s routines were not yet fully developed. The second half features his 1948 All-Stars from a broadcast at the Blue Note in Chicago - a dynamite performance which helped cement his new group. A must-have for any Jazz enthusiast!
