In the 1950s, American tenor-saxophonist Johnny Griffin earned the title of the ?Fastest tenor in the West? and his virtuosic play is clearly demonstrated on the eight fantastic tracks on this CD. The ?Little Giant? is in his element in these performances, we find him playing to enthusiastic audiences in three jazz sessions at Copenhagen?s Montmartre and Slukefter clubs, stretching out on some of his favourite compositions by J. J. Johnson, Diz, Lester Young, Monk and Gene Ammons & Sonny Stitt. He is in especially good form on two energetic outings with his old Tough Tenors partner, Eddie ?Lockjaw? Davis supported throughout by an excellent rhythm section.
