Memories of Ellis Island – solo guitar
Benjamin Verdery wrote Memories of Ellis Island in 2017 and revised it in 2023. Much of the musical material comes from his earlier guitar-ensemble work Scenes from Ellis Island.
From ensemble to solo instrument
Verdery also draws on his ensemble version Ellis Island. The ideas come together here as a solo work dedicated to guitarist Scott Tennant.
Memories of Ellis Island offers material to explore beyond the first reading. A player can return to the individual phrases and their connections, shaping the music through practice and a considered personal interpretation.
