Beginning Guitar & Beyond – from first lessons to practical guitar skills

Beginning Guitar & Beyond is a comprehensive guitar course combining a 120-page companion book with nearly three hours of expert-led online video instruction. The method starts at the very beginning but goes far beyond the first basic chords, gradually introducing the techniques and harmonic tools needed to play confidently across rock, pop, funk, reggae and many other styles.

Suitable for both acoustic and electric guitar, the course is ideal for complete beginners looking for a structured learning path as well as players with some previous experience who want to strengthen their fundamentals and expand their practical skills.

Start with the essential foundations

The opening lessons cover fundamental skills including proper playing posture, tuning and reading guitar tablature. From there, players learn essential open chords and chord progressions, providing the tools needed to begin making real music rather than simply practising isolated techniques.

The course also introduces power chords and movable shapes alongside scales, riffs and single-note playing. Developing chordal and melodic skills together provides a broad foundation that can be applied to many different kinds of guitar music.

Progress to barre chords, seventh chords and modern rhythm styles

Once the fundamentals are established, the material progresses to barre chords and seventh chords before exploring chord embellishments and added tones. These concepts allow players to move beyond basic chord shapes and create richer, more varied harmonic sounds.

Rock, funk and reggae rhythm styles are also covered, followed by triad inversions, slash chords, ninth chords and expanded voicings. This gradual progression gives guitarists a larger harmonic vocabulary and a better understanding of how different chord shapes can be used across the fretboard.

18 online video lessons with nearly 3 hours of instruction

The chapters are supported by 18 separate online video lessons totalling nearly three hours. Each lesson demonstrates the material step by step, allowing players to see and hear how chords, riffs, rhythms and techniques should be performed.

On-screen guitar tablature, chord grids and fretboard diagrams reinforce the demonstrations, with the same visual material also included in the book. This creates a direct connection between written instruction and practical demonstration. The videos are available for online streaming or download.

A complete pathway for acoustic and electric guitar

Beginning Guitar & Beyond is designed for players who want more than a brief introduction to the instrument. By combining chords, rhythm playing, scales, riffs and increasingly sophisticated harmony, it provides a structured path from the first guitar lesson towards greater confidence, versatility and musical independence.
