Unexcused Absences – Jazz Ensemble – Score
Unexcused Absences settles into a funk-rock groove at around 120 beats per minute. Solo passages for tenor saxophone and trumpet provide a contrast to the full ensemble writing.
Musical shape and preparation
The score allows the relationship between parts to be followed when planning rehearsal work. Lead trumpet reaches written fourth-line D. The insistent groove creates a focus for precise placement, compact figures and the connection between the rhythm section and the rest of the group.
