Symphony No.30
Dark marches, dense orchestral textures and sudden moments of chamber intimacy shape Havergal Brian’s Thirtieth Symphony. Within a few bars, the music can move from the full orchestra’s power to a small group of strings.
Motifs from the Twenty-Second Symphony return in the later part of the work. Bells and percussion contribute to a sombre journey that gathers into a forceful ending.
